You work hard to keep it all together, but inside you feel unsure and overwhelmed. I can help.
Hello! My name is Pamela Hamer, and I am a clinical psychologist based in Denver. I worked and lived in New York City for more than a dozen years before heading west. I conduct online therapy sessions with clients in Colorado and New York via a secure online health platform.
My credentials:
I have 15 years of experience treating adults, teens, and children in both individual and family therapy sessions. I hold a doctorate degree in psychology from University of Denver and completed a postdoctoral fellowship specializing in infant mental health and early childhood development at University of Colorado. I also hold a master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University.
My clinical approach:
While the focus of treatment is making changes in the present, I explore with my clients how early experiences shape their present-day beliefs about themselves and the world. Those beliefs show up everywhere—from their expectations for relationships, to how they feel about themselves as parents, to what they think they are capable of achieving. When we see clearly what is getting in the way, we know what needs to shift to make progress toward specific goals.
I believe that therapy can challenge clients to grow without being something they dread every week. It’s important to talk about the tough stuff, but at a pace that feels right and always with curiosity and compassion. Being human is hard! Stumbling and making mistakes is a normal part of life and the change process, and I help my clients find a healthy balance between holding themselves accountable and having self-compassion.
While I have the clinical expertise to guide the therapeutic process, ultimately my clients are the experts on themselves. So no matter what goals they have, I help them tap into their innate wisdom to facilitate change—an ability that will serve them long after they have completed therapy. Using mindfulness techniques are one way I help clients gain greater clarity about the connection between their thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behavior. I also support them in learning how to tolerate challenging emotions without falling back into problematic patterns, and how to access the part of themselves that remains steady and calm, no matter what else is going on.
